Ultimate Skateboarding

Since the skateboard was invented using roller skate wheels attached
to a piece of 2 by 4 , it has enjoyed mixed fortunes. It wasn`t until the
1950s , when the surfing craze was in full swing , that people realised
that skateboarding could recreate the feeling of riding a wave.

This connection with surfing gave skateboarding a direction that would
influence everything to come , from manouvers and style , to terrain ,
fashion and attitude.

During the early 1960s there was a huge uptake of the sport but this was
quelled by safety fears and by 1965 a slump followed. Many seminal skate-
boarding moves were developed in the 1970s including the aerial , the
invert and the ollie , which may be the single most important trick in the
evolution of skateboarding , next to the kickturn.

Skateboarding took off in the 1980s with skaters building their own ramps
and using the natural terrain. Some skaters are seen using their urban
surroundings , some the purpose built skate parks , as a means of expressing
themselves. Watch the flips and turns all at extraordinary speed as skaters
use the laws of physics to their advantage.
